Out this week, what has been called a "must-read" piece in GQ called "And He Shall Be Judged" on former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld '54. Turns out Rumsfeld -- an athletic recruit at Princeton who hitchhiked his way to campus freshman year -- had these cover sheets from this top-secret intelligence briefings that included Bible passages selected to correspond with war events. What's more, the sheets were actually distributed daily to a group of administration leaders...including President Bush.
Couple other noteworthy tidbits in the piece: Rummy played a large part in delaying the government's response to Hurricane Katrina; he worked hard to make sure Ted Kennedy was not given the Presidential Medal of Freedom after being recommended for the honor; it took a damn long time for President Bush to realize he needed to fire his embattled Defense Secretary back in fall 2006. Be sure to check it out.
